Our impact

“The FGH Foundation is a vehicle for the things the hospital cannot do alone. There are so many things that we can do in gratitude for what Forrest General has done for this community.”

— Joe Paul, Foundation Board of Directors Chair

Your gifts in action

The Asbury Hospice House, located on 40th Avenue, offers a home-like setting where staff can address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of each patient and their family. This inpatient facility provides a comforting atmosphere where families can gather and prepare in dignity. From the moment you enter through the welcoming doors, families will find spacious patient rooms, dining and kitchen facilities, a comfortable family room, meditation room, and garden all coupled with the best available care. The Asbury Hospice House is designed to provide for every aspect of care a family may need when facing the terminal illness of their loved one. At life’s end, the idea of care circles around a different philosophy. While we all seek the familiarity of home and family, in many circumstances, a patient’s needs dictate the shape and nature of care. Asbury Hospice House gives patients and families the opportunity to be together while maintaining the highest level of care and comfort. To learn more about the facility or inquire about care and treatment for a loved one, please call Forrest General Home Care and Hospice at 1-800-844-4663.

  • Paul McMullan Plaza and Circle of Healing Sculpture – As a part of the Spiritual Grounds at Pine Grove project, represents the organizations’ promise to positively affect lives. This unique project and piece of art exists through the dedication of Pine Grove and Forrest General to heal patients and families, as well as enrich the Hattiesburg community. As Phase I of the Spiritual Grounds at Pine Grove, the Paul McMullan Plaza and Circle of Healing Sculpture will serve as the introduction to future elements of a spiritual sanctuary where art and nature converge. This beginning phase of the Spiritual Grounds at Pine Grove serves as a symbol for our community to realize that by helping each other, we all become stronger. The sculpture is a vision of hope illustrating the importance of support from family and friends during illness and other struggles in life. This bronze sculpture clearly communicates what it means to bear one another’s burdens and speaks even louder to the effect of working together unselfishly.
  • Meditative Labyrinth – The labyrinth is an ancient meditative circle patients use as a spiritual tool in their recovery. It has only one path that leads from the outer edge in a winding motion to the center. There are no tricks to it and it has no dead ends, so that patients may focus on themselves more than the task at hand. They can enter the labyrinth to take a walk and meditate or pray about whatever is going on in their circumstances, and hopefully exit with a new sense of purpose and a better perspective. The labyrinth is meant to offer patients a relaxing place to concentrate on their personal path to recovery and to be a place of centering and contemplation.
  • Fire Circle – In a remote, natural setting, The Fire Circle ceremony is one of the final phases of treatment at Pine Grove. Ceremonies are traditionally held here in the evenings, where patients can burn things from their past, spiritually discard transgressions or past situations, and move forward making healthy resolutions.
